The Droids-Ja Bede Bardzo Dobry 7" Download

This one is from 1994. Maybe some of the native Midwesterners who read this can shed some light on this band, but I doubt it. According to the insert, they were only a band for 3 months.

The Droids were from a Polish neighborhood in Green Bay, WI (and not actually from Poland). Three of the five songs on this record are actually sung in Polish. They've got sort of a melodic sound, but it's still edgy. I don't really have much to say about them because I don't really know anything about them. Any of the native Midwesterners who read this might be able to shed a little light, but I doubt it, this record seems pretty obscure.

I did Google this and found a couple mailorder catalogs that have ancient copies of this, as well a couple of copies floating around on eBay. I also found a page for Power Ground Records, who released this record, but with NO info other than a discography (which includes an earlier Droids split 7" with a band called Boris the Sprinkler) and a header that reads "WE'RE BACK" posted April 17, 2007. Who are you people!??

The Droids weren't really from a Polish neighborhood, they were from Manitowoc & GB, and their singer (who is now the keyboardist for Aluminum Knot Eye and sang for the Squish) comes from a Polish family. He's an architect now.

Bitty was Power Ground records and a million hardcore bands (like Remission). I think Tom (the Derks, Remission) was in the band, too. They were around a lot longer than 3 months, I saw them several times and they were always good (a lot better than the records).

The sleeve says they were only together for 3 months, is that a misprint or did they get back together after this record came out? WERE THERE RELEASES AFTER THIS?!?

Thanks for the corrections, though. It's funny how mythologies of bands change through hearsay as they get further removed from the source.

Yeah they were from Manitowok (sp?) I saw them at a legion hall of some kind in 95 or 96 with 1096 from Keno. Singer's grandmother taught him Polish. They were a good fun band.

The droids came from an area of manitowoc known as Polish Hill, the singer indeed was very polish. The first seven inch was released on power ground but had a pressing error. by the time the problem was fixed at the pressing plant and the record was released Mathcek had gone back to school & the band had broken up. The band reunited after the school year and released the split record with boris the sprinkler on red wax on power ground records. The droids side was great with a cover of the Exploited's "Sex & Violence" sung in polish with the lyrics changed to food and sleep. After the 2nd record the droids continued to play local shows with a great local following in manitowoc. A 3rd seven inch was released which captured there sound in top form! A full lenght lp was recorded but before the release the band once again disbanded and the masted DAT tape for the lp is said to be lost in rotation somewhere. The Lead guitar player fozzy went on to play in the Brewed . Bass Player Ted went out to west in 97 where he played with Seattles very own Gutbomb until his unexpected death a few years back. Talk has gone around about a discography cd but the droids came from a time DAT mastering when burning cds wasnt an easy task. The Droid are indeed one of the best bands that no one will ever know!

Who's this anonymous person that seems to know an awful lot about the band?

I played drums for this band.

Anonymous is right about the full length and the split the were recorded after Ja bede.... I am not sure that the masters for the full length are missing. I think Bitty has them in his massive pile of master from all the hundreds of bands he's played in. I've been trying to get a copy of that for a few years now. The full length was slated come out on Beer City Records. I can't remember why it didn't. I'm sure it was a money thing.

I've got extra copies of the two 7" and the split with Boris The Sprinkler. If anybody wants them Let me know.

I saw the Droids in Kiel, Wi when I was 17 im now 35, they played at a hall, don't remember which one, the are from manitowoc. They played with someone else. They are one of the most amazing bands then to have seen, i am honored. I talked to them after the show and they gave me the record that is shown, I still have it and will allways cherish it, they were cute, sweet guys, wonder what happened to them. _Jessica
